Disability Day

Amy Rakoczy and her client, Elizabeth of Pathfinders Services of Huntington came to visit the Roanoke Public Library Story Time on Tuesday March 6, 2012 to celebrate Disability Day.  Amy talked to the children about differences and that people who may seem different from us are actually quite similar.  Elizabeth gave each of the children a bookmark.  After the talk, Karen Baker, Library Assistant read the children some books on disability and then the children did a craft of stringing beads on pipe cleaners creating a bracelet. Six special beads of different colors were added to represent the differences in people, but that we are all basically the same.           

March Preschool Story Time Calendar

Don't forget that the Roanoke Public Library has story time for preschoolers on Tuesdays at 10 am.  Here is a calendar of what we will be celebrating each Tuesday in March.

Preschool Programs for the rest of January

Karen made a schedule for January Preschool Programs.  January 24th will be featuring polar bears and January 31 will celebrate Groundhog's Day.  All children, not in school, are welcome to come to the Roanoke Public at 10:00 am.  They will hear books, sing songs, do a craft and have lot's of fun!!

Preschoolers visit the fire station

Last Tuesday, the preschooler at our reading program got a real treat when Brandon Taylor visited and took them on a trip to the fire station.  The children were able to into the fire truck, honk the horn and get into an ambulance. They heard all about firemen, fire safety, and people who protect them.  The kids had a great time and learned some valuable lessons.  Thanks, Brandon, you did a great job!!! 

eReader/eBook Program at the Andrews Library

Celia took her collection of eReaders to the Andrews-Dallas Township Library and held a "petting zoo" for the patrons and visitors there on December 7th..  A reference librarian from Huntington Library came and did a program on downloading eBooks on to the different devices using the Overdrive system which Andrews and Roanoke just implemented on November 30th. This event was enjoyed by all.  Celia is planning on holding a similar program on downloading eBooks to different devises in the new year so be watching for that date if you get a new devise for Christmas or are having troubles with a device you may already have to use.

Christmas in the Village

Santa came to visit Roanoke riding on the town's fire truck.  Children were able to visit with him have cookies and hot chocolate provided by the Lions.  They were also invited into the Library for games and hearing a book being read.

Sorry about Emails

I have been trying to connect my library blog to emails, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. If you received some of the recent emails you will notice that this hasn't been totally successful. I believe I have the bugs worked out and you will be receiving news on the Roanoke Public Library. I will be including programming, events, new or changing policies and anything else that I think would be of widespread interest about the Library. The public is invited to come see, touch and experience a variety of eReaders. The Roanoke Public Library will begin offering eBooks for check out starting November 30th so if you have not yet purchased an eReader and want to see which is best for you or are just curious about eReaders, this is your chance.
