The exact wording on the petition is "We, Roanoke resident taxpayers who have signed our names, below affrirm that a need exists for new library building for the Roanoke Public Library and that at the Roanoke Public Library cannot provide the... necessary funds on its own to pay the cost required to meet that present need for a library builiding. To achieve this goal, we agree, the Roanoke Public Library should pursue a lease with the owners of the property at 314 North Main Street."
